Perspective

Things are not always as they seem.

Sometimes it looks as if everything is out of control and our situation can seem hopeless. However if we remember to look at things with an eternal perspective instead of just an earthly one we can regain our hope and watch things turn out for the best.

This is exemplified in the story of Joseph finding out that Mary, whom he is engaged to is pregnant. It seems as if Mary has been unfaithful and he decides to end the engagement. But just as he has thought this through, an angel appears to him in a dream and tells him that the baby is the child of God and will be called Immanuel, God with us. He is to name the baby Jesus because he will be the Savior. (Matthew 1:18-25) From an earthly perspective things seemed entirely different than they really were. God was at work, even though Joseph couldn’t see that, to write a greater story than Joseph ever could have imagined. Joseph did what the angel told him and went on to marry Mary and become the earthly father of Jesus. If only we could see all that God is doing when we think things are out of control and going entirely the wrong way. Take a few moments to consider your life…what if God is at work in ways that you cannot see or understand, writing a greater story than you could ever come up with yourself. Take a heavenly perspective and trust in the care and control of the one who sent Jesus to save us. He always has a plan and is constantly working to bring that plan to fruition.
